Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall Opportunities

 

An Internship with the PG Valor Basketball Team aims to:

  • Enhances students’ work experience by bridging the gap between the academic environment and a future work environment.  

  • Provide meaningful work experiences for students which increases their marketability when looking for a permanent position

  • Help students determine if this is the right career path

  • Provide the opportunity for students to network with established business leaders in their field

  • Help build a resume that sets the student apart from others when looking for a position

  • Allow students to practice what they learned in the classroom

  • Familiarize students with a working environment

  • Help students apply academic knowledge, develop competencies for careers and community service, explore career options and gain field experience, and earn credit towards graduation.

  • Opportunities could (not guaranteed) turn into compensated positions with the team upon successful completion of your internship period as outlined in your initial agreement.  

 

The Intern Program includes a robust curriculum of professional development activities, including a seven-day orientation that acclimates Interns to their work environment.  Interns participate in multiple training programs, events, and activities designed to broaden their knowledge of the industry. Their exposure to the business of basketball includes attendance at a variety of ABA events and participation in discussion forums with executives from a variety of departments, including the Owner’s office.   

 

Interns will also have an opportunity to work in groups in assigned areas of PG County, MD.

About the Company:

League:  American Basketball Association (ABA)
 

Location: games will be played at a gym in the PG County Area However, this team is a competitive team and a travels to play other teams in other cities and states. Interns are not required to travel.

 

Availability: Immediate positions available

This ABA team is looking for hardworking, dedicated, students to intern for the Season. Interns will gain valuable hands on experience which will benefit them in future endeavors.

Qualifications:

  • Must be either (a) enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college or university and be between their junior or senior year OR (b) graduate students (typically MBA) between their first and second years, or Law students between years one and two, or years two and three.

 

HS Students may volunteer and may be partnered with a PG Valor staff member or college level mentor

 

  • Must be in good academic standing

  • Good communication and organizational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications and the Internet

  • Able to work in a team environment

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite a plus

  • Must be mature and professional

  • Must be able to speak and understand English is necessary

  • Go Getters and Self motivated

  • Must be able to work independently in a team environment

Please note:

  • The PG Valor Basketball Team’s season of playing begins in November and is scheduled to end in March IF no post season/championship games are earned or played. Although, there are learning opportunities throughout various times of the year the busiest times of the year for PG Valor are during the active months of playing.

  • Listed below are synopsis of each position and a detailed task list will be given to the person or individuals selected for a specific position.

  • The internship process for PG Valor has changed. Anyone who is interested must submit an application online at PGValor.com; once contacted there will be an interview. If selected there will then be an orientation and either weekly or bi-weekly meetings. Please plan accordingly.

  • Some positions are only available during certain times. Those times are indicated beside the positions.

  • Commission opportunities are available to all participants who assist with us securing any sponsorship or other revenue generating.

Team Manager

Summary: Supports coaches during scouting, practices and games

Manages equipment, laundry and keeps players hydrated.

(1-2 positions available November-March)

 

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Coordinates team travel

  • Coordinates team lodging

  • Make sure players get jerseys, towels etc. during games

  • Make sure game balls are functional for games, shoot arounds, events etc. and keep tracks of balls during shoot around, events and games

  • Set up and clean up of supplies before, after and during games, practices, meetings and events

  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Director of Game Day Operations/Co- Director of Game Day Operations

Summary: Managing, planning, setting up for all game day events

(1-2 Positions available September-March. *Position may extend through April if the team earns a place and participates in post season championship games)

 

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Coordinates and schedules staff for score table (score book, score board, 3D light, announcer)

  • Coordinates and schedules staff for ticket takers

  • Makes sure all monies are secured and properly counted, reported and accurate

  • Coordinates and oversees in game events

  • Schedules pre game, half time, and time out events for game day

  • Schedules DJ for game day and events

  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Director of Operations

Summary: Responsible for the daily assistance of the program

(1-2 positions available September-March*Position may extend through April if the team earns a place and participates in post season championship games)

 

  • Work with the coaching staff with the flow of daily correspondence and day-to-day operations of running a sport program

  • Marketing and sponsor finding and maintain a database of contacts

  • Plan and coordinate Community Relations and work with different areas in the community and create volunteer opportunities for the organization and maintain a database of contacts.

  • Coordinate filming and photography of the organization during games, practices, events and for general marketing and promotions

  • Responsible for compiling and processing player information packets which includes resumes, recommendation letters, still photos and film

  • Assist with the recruitment of vendors for game day

  • Assist with marketing and promotions of game days and ticket sales

  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Media and Film Specialist

Summary: Creates audio and video content

(2 positions available September-March*Position may extend through April if the team earns a place and participates in post season championship games) (Summer internship may be available for April-August months)

 

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Produce film and photographs of the organization during games, practices, events and for general marketing and promotions

  • Edits media files as needed for final package (final submission)

  • Maintain an organized photo and video file archive

  • Produce the team’s Podcast content

  • Travel with the team and assist with logistics as it relates to team’s video needs

  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Director of Graphics

Summary: Works closely with other departments to create non audio and video graphics

(2-3 positions available September-March. *Position may extend through April if the team earns a place and participates in post season championship games)

 

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Designs graphics for viral (social media and web) post

  • Designs game tickets, game day flyers, signs, passes, vouchers, billboards and ideally the PG Valor website

  • Designs ads and page layouts for game day booklets for each game

  • Designs ads and page layouts for monthly newsletter

  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Director of Events and Community Engagement

Summary: Assist with community relations and player appearances by seeking events to attend

Attend events on behalf of the organization

(2-3 positions available from September –March. *Position may extend through April if the team earns a place and participates in post season championship games)

 

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Coordinate and assist in marketing plans for special promotional nights

  • Responsible for executing of special nights from planning to execution

  • Generate ideas and execute ideas on how to market games and events

  • Creates and maintains a database of Community Contacts

  • Seeks, plans, coordinates and oversees the execution of events in the Community

  • Seeks, plans, coordinates and oversees fund generating events

  • Seeks, plans, coordinates networking and promotional events and appearances for the coach; and players

  • Seeks, plans, coordinates and overseas the end of season banquet and all logistics of event

  • Identify and support grassroots marketing opportunities in the DMV

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Director of Public Relations/Co Director of Public Relations

Summary: Create and maintain a positive image for the PG Valor organization

Coordinating the seamless flow of favorable information to the press

(2-3 positions available from September –March. *Position may extend through April if the team earns a place and participates in post season championship games)

 

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • Promote team, individual players and organization through media channels including broadcast, print, radio and online media outlets

  • Seeks out and builds relationships between PG Valor and the public

  • Create a maintain a current and accurate media database of contact information

  • Seeks, plans and creates opportunities at high-profile goodwill events, volunteer, or work

  • Seeks, plans and creates several different ways to connect with fans through social events, volunteer work, social media, meet and greets and more

  • Quickly and cautiously approach crisis management

  • Submits written or audio or video content for the team’s newsletter, website, and other media sources.

  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

 

Skills and qualifications that we are seeking for all positions

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Google Docs)

  • Data entry

  • Reliable and dependable

  • Strong ability to meet deadlines

  • Effective communication both written and oral

  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Strong organizational skills

  • You will provide first-class customer service and value for our fans

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • For Graphic Design and Media producing positions: Strong Adobe suite; Audition; and Final Cut Pro experience a plus

 

The following are additional opportunities and the number of available opportunities is more general and flexible. Not all of the above skills and qualifications are required for the positions below except Sales Team and Director of Ticket Sales.

 

Criminal Justice Majors Only: We are in need of security at our games to work under the supervision of official law enforcement. While working with law enforcement, you would maintain a security presence at games and events by directing crowds inside venue and parking lot; and by being visual and proactive for any safety concerns or events. Again law enforcement will be present-you will just need to report issues.

 

Event/Hospitality Majors Only: We have a need for ushers to assist in guest seating.

 

Sales team: We are seeking to assist with team sales and the acquisition of sponsorship and advertisers for the organization. Commissioned may be earned.

 

Director of Ticket Sales: We are seeking those interested in helping us to promote and sell general admission; group; Fastbreak Memberships; and Kids Club Memberships. Commissioned may be earned.

 

Health Aide: We are seeking individuals to assist in the event that minor first aide is needed such as distributing ice and bandages. Also to call 911 if needed. During HOME and AWAY games.

 

Statistician: We are seeking those interested in capturing and maintaining accurate stats for the players during HOME and AWAY games.

 

Merchandising Coordinator:  We are seeking those interested in overseeing our merchandise table at games and events; to suggest merchandise that we should acquire and if interested submit ideas for designs and manufacturing.

 

Female Assistant Coach: We have a mostly male coaching staff and in an effort to continue our diverse organization, we would like the addition of a female seeking to gain experience and knowledge from our professional coaching staff.

 

Spirit Squad/Dance Team Coordinator: We are seeking those interested in starting, coordinating and handling the choreography for our dance team/spirit squad during HOME and AWAY games.
